9 January 2009 'Anne Frank + You' at Snibston

Picture of Anne FrankPeople gripped by the BBC's dramatisation of The Diary of Anne Frank can find out more at a special exhibition on her short but inspirational life coming to Snibston Discovery Museum.

The dramatic, multimedia 'Anne Frank + You’ will coincide with what would have been Anne’s 80th birthday and residents are being urged to make sure they experience it.

The exhibition is in two parts - contemporary and historical and includes a replica of Anne’s bedroom and the ‘Holocaust Tunnel’ plus a photo album featuring pictures of Anne and her sister Margot and replica artefacts.

People can also take an interactive virtual tour of the Secret Annexe in Amsterdam where the Frank family hid for over two years and explore bright and colourful contemporary panels displaying audio-visual material.

The dramatisation of Anne Frank's diary is being shown each night this week on BBC 1.

The Anne Frank Trust UK , who are staging the exhibition at Snibston in June, uses the power of Anne Frank’s life and diary to challenge prejudice and reduce hatred by encouraging people to embrace positive attitudes, responsibility and respect for others.

For more information on the 'Anne Frank + You' exhibition at Snibston Discovery Museum, contact Carolyn Abel, Curator on 01530 278 3468.

Picture of Anne Frank's DiaryBBC 1 Dramatisation: The Diary of Anne Frank.

Tamsin Greig, Lesley Sharp and Ellie Kendrick star in the BBC adaptation of The Diary Of Anne Frank. Shown in five episodes on consecutive nights, the drama started on Monday 5 January 2009 on BBC1

The rights to The Diary Of Anne Frank rarely become available. The BBC and Darlow Smithson Productions have worked closely with the Anne Frank-Fonds, the charitable foundation promoting social and cultural projects in the spirit of Anne Frank, to ensure complete authenticity for the drama.

Anne started to write her diary on her 13th birthday in June 1942, just two weeks before she and her family were forced to go into hiding in Nazi occupied Holland.

Written from the cramped conditions of an annex in her father's spice warehouse, Anne's poignant, feisty and often funny account of her life over a two-year period has become the most widely read piece of non-fiction - apart from the Bible.

She writes more and more in her birthday diary, detailing life in the annex and her feelings about her companions.

Anne is played by actress Ellie Kendrick; Anne's father by Iain Glen (Kingdom Of Heaven); and mother by Tamsin Greig (Love Soup).

Felicity Jones (Northanger Abbey) plays Anne's sister. Ron Cook (Hot Fuzz) and Lesley Sharp (Clocking Off) play Mr and Mrs Van Daan; with Kate Ashfield (Secret Smile) as Miep and Nicholas Farrell (Talk To Me) as Mr Dussel.

The adaptation is by Deborah Moggach, whose screenplay for the film version of Pride and Prejudice was nominated for a BAFTA. The series is directed by Jon Jones and produced by Elinor Day
