15 December 2008 New paths to boost Market Bosworth park

More people will be able to enjoy a Sunday stroll or a midweek meander round Market Bosworth Country Park thanks to £20,000 of work on paths.

Leicestershire County Council is adding new paths and resurfacing existing ones to help visitors, including children in pushchairs, wheelchair users, and anyone who is less mobile or wants to avoid the mud.

A new path will take walkers from the car park down to the Bow Pool lake and the path round the lake will be improved.

The walk to the town centre from the lake will benefit from a new surfaced path linking the corner of the park where Park Street and Rectory Lane meet.

Ernie White, Cabinet member for Community Services, said: “Market Bosworth Park is a gem and a walk in the park ideally complements a trip round the town. We want more people to be able to enjoy the park so surfaced paths are the natural next step.

“We are committed to making the countryside, and particularly country parks, more accessible for everyone. That’s also the aim of larger projects on other parks, like the Connect2 scheme at Watermead.”

The project is due to be completed in time for spring. The surfacing material, and the routes of the new paths, are designed to blend in with the existing parkland. The plans will preserve the expanse of open park between the road and the lake.
