Hinckley police arrest 23 people following drug warrants
A police crackdown on drugs in Hinckley has seen 23 people arrested following a four day operation to tackle suspected dealers in the area.
Operation Lone Wolf ran from Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 December and pulled together police officers from across the South area to hold 16 raids on properties where police believe drug activity was taking place.
Fourteen addresses in Hinckley, Earl Shilton, Barwell and Burbage were targeted and Class A, B and C drugs were recovered believed to have a street value of several thousand pounds. Stolen property and cash was also seized.
Inspector Martyn Ball, Commander of the Hinckley local policing unit, said: "We believe this will have seriously disrupted the sale of drugs in the area over Christmas and into the New Year. It has been sent off for analysis but we believe this holds a street value of many thousands of pounds. Much of it would have been sold locally and we have stopped significant amounts getting onto the streets.
"Drugs are a stain on our society and we won't tolerate it. We are continually gathering information from various sources, including the local community. People who deal in drugs have nowhere to hide and we will catch them.
The first raids took place in Burbage and Hinckley. Three people were arrested including two on suspicion of the production of cannabis. They were released on police bail. On Wednesday the police carried out warrants at five addresses and made eight arrests including four men suspected of intent to supply who were also released on police bail. Two from Stafford Street, Barwell, were arrested for possession of class A, B and C drugs with intent to supply, and two from Soar Way, Hinckley faced a similar charge in connection with class A drugs, all which have been bailed pending further enquiries.
The drug enforcements continued in Hinckley and Burbage on Thursday, resulting in three more arrests for possession. They have been bailed pending further enquiries. On Friday, officers carried out five raids which resulted in seven arrests for drugs related offences.
Inspector Ball continued: "Anyone thinking about using drugs, selling drugs or growing drugs should know that we are watching over their shoulder. We are determined to crack down on the problem and seizures of this nature show we are doing that.
"We welcome information about anyone you believe is misusing drugs or you suspect might be dealing. We are asking the community to come forward and help us stamp out the problem by giving us the information we need to stop drug dealing."
Sergeant Steve Burge, an officer on the Hinckley neighbourhood action team, said: "Hopefully the communities in Hinckley and Burbage can feel reassured that we are responding to their concerns about drug use and that we will continue to target and arrest the people involved in the supply of controlled drugs.
"These seizures reflect the strong stance we are taking to address drugs related offending in the Hinckley area - I would urge anyone who has concerns or information about drug misuse to contact Hinckley police station in confidence or contact Crimestoppers."
