A Leicestershire County Council Highways employee has beaten hundreds of other graduates to win a national competition about designing roads, bridges and developing transport systems.

Jordan Flint, aged 26, from Markfield, jointly won the competition with a graduate from Scott Wilson - one of the highways department’s business partners.

The pair won the competition, run by the National Highways Design Benchmarking Club and sponsored by The Surveyor magazine, by writing an article on Delivering Significant Improvement in Public Satisfaction.

Jordan will collect his prize in London on Thursday, October 23, and present his winning article to top level highways managers from all over the country at a national conference.

Nicholas Rushton, Cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: “We run a comprehensive graduate training programme at Leicestershire County Council so we are all delighted that Jordan has won this competition. It is great for him in his career in highways and it is also reflects well on the department.”

Jordan said: “This was a great opportunity for me. Obviously, I am really pleased to have won the competition and gain recognition for my work in a national competition.

“Everyone in the highways department has been really supportive for this project and throughout my training. I’m just grateful to be offered all these new and exciting opportunities.”

The County Council will be recruiting for new graduate trainees at a recruitment fair in Loughborough University on November 12.

Graduates interested in a trainee position in the Highways, Transportation and Waste Management Department at Leicestershire County Council, can call Clare Randall on 0116 305 8140.
