A Week of Action is being held on two Leicester estates to help residents reduce anti-social behaviour and crime and improve the environment in which they live.
Leicestershire Constabulary has joined forces with Leicester City Council and other partner organisations for the Week of Action on the St Matthews Estate and in Northfields and Tailby from Monday October 20 to Saturday October 25.
The initiatives are being funded through the Safer Leicester Partnership.
Pete Oliver, assistant neighbourhood manager for St Matthews said: "The Neighbourhood Management Team is delighted to be helping lead the week of action in St Matthews.
"We've listened carefully to the views of local residents to ensure that the activities taking place during the week, and the months following, have maximum benefit for the community. With the support of local residents and service providers, everyone in St Matthews is pulling together to make the week a real success."
A range of activities are planned for both areas throughout the week including clean-up days, road safety enforcement, graffiti removal, drug and alcohol awareness and a football tournament for local youngsters.
Sergeant Gemma Streather from the St Matthews neighbourhood policing team said: "This Week of Action will enable the police and other agencies to focus their efforts on issues that matter most to the community, including drugs misuse, anti-social behaviour and road safety.
"We will also be engaging with young people during their half term school holiday, encouraging them to take pride in their community and providing positive activities for them to get involved with.
"Plans are also in place to ensure that the results achieved from the Week of Action are sustained over the coming months."
Leicester City Council's cabinet member for health and community safety, Councillor Culdipp Bhatti, said: "It's important that residents are supported to tackle instead of tolerate anti-social behaviour. The Safer Leicester Partnership is committed to ensuring that people are involved in efforts to make their local communities a better place to live, this is what the week of action helps us to achieve."
The Week of Action for St Matthews and Northfields and Tailby is funded through the Safer Leicester Partnership and is supported by Leicestershire Constabulary, Leicester City Council, Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Service, Voluntary Action Leicester, NHS Leicester City, St Matthews Tenants and Residents Association, Northfields and Tailby Tenants and Residents Association, Connexions, Stride, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (Arson Task Force), Groundworks, the Contact Project and Taylor Road School.
For more information about activities taking place as part of the Week of Action call Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222 and leave a message by entering the voicemail number 9089 (St Matthews) or 9085 (Northfields and Tailby).
