Information on Leicestershire

The police in North West Leicestershire are trying to establish how a young man came to suffer serious head and facial injuries.

The police were called just after midnight on Saturday 20 September 2008 after the 17 year old male was found badly injured on Holly Hayes Road in Whitwick.  He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and later transferred to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Three men from Coalville were arrested in connection with the assault and released on bail but were also charged with affray in connection with a separate incident and appeared before Hinckley Magistrates Court on Monday 22 September 2008. The men are 21, 20 and 18.  They pleaded guilty to affray and will be sentenced at Coalville Magistrates Court on Tuesday 14th October 2008.

On Wednesday 24 September 2008 police made two further arrests in connection with the assault.  They are a 14 year old male and a 23 year old man, both from Coalville.  They are currently being interviewed by police.

Detective Inspector Simon Shuttleworth, from Loughborough CID, said; "We are appealing for anyone who might know anything about this assault to contact us.  Thankfully assaults like this are rare but we want to establish how this young man came to receive such serious injuries to his face and head.   Were you in Whitwick late on Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday morning?  Did you see anything suspicious or did you witness the assault?  Any information, no matter how small, could help us find out where and when this man was assaulted and why."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Loughborough CID on Leicester (0116) 222 2222 or Crimestoppers which is free* and anonymous on 0800  555 111.
