Information on Leicestershire

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in the city centre.

The incident is alleged to have happened at around 8.30am on Wednesday, August 27 when the 46-year-old victim was walking along Halford Street.

She was approached by a man who grabbed her right arm and demanded her purse. The suspect them took the victim into Free Lane and threatened her with a knife.

A second man on a motorbike turned up and both suspects rode off towards Charles Street with the victims purse.

The first suspect is described Asian, in his late 20s or early 30s, between 5'5" and 5'9" tall and of a heavy build. He was wearing black jeans, a black hooded top that was slightly undone and had a purple cross motif on the back and a dull green t-shirt.

He had his sunglasses hanging from a pocket near his right shoulder.

He had dark brown hair, a beard and had a ring on the fourth finger of his right hand. He is described as speaking in broken English.

The second suspect is described as having a tanned appearance, between 16 and 18-years-old and was wearing blue jeans which had rips in both knees, a grey hooded top and black and white Reebok trainers. He had long shoulder length hair tied in a ponytail, brown eyes and had a piercing in his right eyebrow and one in his bottom lip of a skull.

The motorbike is described as a small bike and had flame stickers on the front near the petrol tank. Both suspects wore black helmets.

Detective Sergeant Glen Iceton, who is investigating the incident said: "This incident has left the victim shaken. It happened on a weekday morning when plenty of people would have been making their way through the city centre to work. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Halford Street or Charles Street area and saw anything suspicious. Did you see two men matching this description? Did you see a motorbike making off towards Charles Street? We would ask people who were in the area at the time to think back and see if they can remember anything at all.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem could help us with our enquiries."

Amnyone with information is asked to contact DS 1863 Glen Iceton on Leicester (0116) 222 2222 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted key in his identification number 1863. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
