Information on Leicestershire

A team of six police officers from Loughborough are raising money for charity by cycling to all five police stations on the North Area in one day.

The officers will start their 80 mile journey at 8am on Sunday 24 August 2008 at Loughborough police station.

They are raising money for Rainbows children's hospice in Loughborough and will cycle from Loughborough to the police stations at Coalville, Syston, Oakham, Melton Mowbray and then back to Loughborough again.

Inspector Mark Parish, an Operational Command Inspector, said; "We wanted to raise money for a local charity and, as we are all police officers, we thought it would be good to cycle to each of the five police stations on the North Area.  Friends, family and colleagues have sponsored us but we'd welcome any other donations.  Pedal Power, a bike shop in Loughborough, has supported us by very kindly supplying bike repair equipment and energy drinks.  We are all doing it in our own time and hope to raise as much money as possible for a great cause."

Rainbows Children's Hospice is based in Loughborough but is the only children's hospice in the East Midlands.

Children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions go to the hospice for specialist respite stays, symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care. Their families, too, are supported and helped by Rainbows. The emphasis is on enriching life and making each minute of each short life count.

Anyone who would like to sponsor the officers can do so by emailing Loughborough.lpu@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk.
