Saffron fete set to start

A SUMMER fete will bring fairground rides, a fancy dress procession and a talent-packed variety show to a Leicester community.
The third annual Saffron Summer Fete will take place at Aylestone Recreation Ground, in Saffron Lane, on Saturday, August 16, and promises a range of attractions for all ages.
The event will begin at 10am with a fun-filled fancy dress parade from the Samworth Academy in Trenant Road to the recreation ground, where the main event will take place from 11am to 4pm.
Attractions include Saffrons Got Talent, where youngsters from the Saffron Young Peoples Project will stage their own version of the hit television talent contest. There will also be fairground rides, music, dancing and a range of stalls.
Leicester Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Roger Blackmore, will officially open the summer fete.
The event is organised by the community, along with Leicester City Council, Saffron Community Enterprises, Leicester City Primary Care Trust, the police, neighbourhood management and area committees, along with the Saffron Arts Forum, which running free fancy dress-making workshops at Linwood Centre ahead of the opening parade.
Councillor Blackmore said: Im looking forward to attending this event and seeing the various attractions that the communities across Saffron are showcasing. It looks like being a very exciting and entertaining day.
Saffron Community Enterprises secretary Karen Pickering added: This year the fete will be bigger and better than ever due to the unwavering support of the community. We are proud to be part of this event together well grow!
