DANCING and music from around the globe will take to the streets of Leicester city centre next weekend in a celebration of international dance.

Humberstone Gate and Gallowtree Gate will be transformed into a dazzling festival arena showcasing diverse programme of artists including belly dancers, acrobats, Irish step dancing, flamenco dancers and many more.

The event, which takes place on Sunday, August 17, is part of Leicesterâs One Rhythm Dance Festival, which has been getting the city dancing since May and which will culminate in a spectacular finale in early October.

The international flavour of this monthâs event will be reflected in a spectacular display by African acrobatic troupe the Black Eagles.

Flamenco Aire will bring Latin passion with their powerful dance routines, while Lapis Lazuli will perform eastern tribal belly dances.

The finale to the day will be a specially-commissioned Bollywood show that will trace the history of Bollywood with dancers performing to excerpts from famous Bollywood films being shown on the big screen in Humberstone Gate. Compere for the day will be Shaylela Kahn from Leicesterâs superb world music band El Mahico â headliners on the Musician Stage at the this yearâs Summer Sundae Weekender festival.

Meanwhile in Gallowtree Gate, events run from 11am to 3pm and will include a rota of appearances throughout the day.

Attractions include the Circo Rum Ba Ba Geisha Girls, Limbo dancers from the Caribbean, traditional Chinese lion dancers and the Grand Theatre of Lemmings, which features stilt walkers and a two-headed Pushmi-pullyu.

The whole day is free and will provide great entertainment for all the family.

The One Leicester â One Rhythm Dance Festival is supported by Highcross Leicester and celebrates the multi-million pound refurbishment of Leicester city centre.
