Appeal to trace witness following attempted theft in Oadby

Officers are appealing for a witness to come forward after an attempted theft in Oadby.
The incident happened at around 3.20pm on Sunday July 27, as the victim, in his seventies, was using the cash machine at Barclays bank on The Parade.
Whilst at the machine, he was approached by a man who claimed he was new to the country and wondered if the victim could show him how to use the machine.
He started to press the buttons at the machine and the victim became suspicious and called for help. A passer-by came to his assistance and the suspect walked off towards Chestnut Avenue.
He is described as white, in his twenties, between 5'8'' - 5'9'' tall and of a slim build. He had short dark brown hair and a trimmed beard. He was wearing a black or navy blue shirt and dark jeans and spoke with an Eastern European accent.
PC Steve Hardy, who is investigating the incident, said: "Thankfully nothing was stolen from the victim and we would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact us.
"We are particularly keen to speak to the passer-by who assisted the victim. He could have vital information which could assist with our enquiries and we ask him to contact the police as soon as possible.
"The victim also recalls seeing a woman was standing nearby during the incident. She is described as white, between 5'2" and 5'3" tall and of a stocky build. Perhaps she was with this man or maybe she is an innocent party and could be a potential witness. If so, we would urge her to please get in touch.
"We would like to remind people to be aware of their surroundings when using cash machines. You must always shield your pin number when you type it and put your withdrawn cash out of sight straight away."
