Information on Leicestershire

Officers are appealing for two key witnesses to come forward after a 49-year-old man was assaulted in the city.

The incident at around 11.35pm on Tuesday July 29, 2008 as the victim was walking along Bishop Street towards Granby Street with his bicycle.

As he passed the Town Hall Square, he noticed two men and a woman standing at the telephone kiosk on Every Street and one of the men asked him to come over.

As he approached the group, he was punched and kicked by both men. He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and received treatment for a broken cheekbone.   

The first man is described as black, around 5'4" tall, of a muscular build and had short brown hair. He was wearing a shirt, trousers and shoes which were all brown. The second man is described as white, over 6ft tall and of a muscular build. He had short light brown hair and was wearing a light brown jacket, light blue trousers and white trainers.

The woman who was with them is described as black, around 5'8" tall and of slim build. She had shoulder length brown hair and was wearing a white dress.

Officers are keen to speak to two men who told paramedics treating the victim at the scene that they witnessed the assault and would appeal for them to come forward.

PC Paul Acaster, who is investigating the incident, said: "We would urge these two men to please get in touch with us urgently as they could have vital information regarding the incident.

"The Town Hall Square is regularly used by a cut through by people walking from bar to bar so can be a busy area at this time of night and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

"We'd also like to hear who has information as to the identities of the people responsible."
