Information on Leicestershire

Join in the fun and stay safe is the message from Leicestershire Constabulary in the run up to this year's Caribbean Carnival.

Thousands of visitors are expected to take to the streets of Leicester on Saturday August 2 for the event, and to help keep them safe police have been working closely with all the event organisers and other agencies involved for many months.

Chief Superintendent Nigel Hughes said: "We've been working closely with everyone involved in the Carnival to make sure we do all we can to make 2008 as safe as it can be.  We want people to be able to come, join in the unique spectacle and really enjoy themselves.

"Our policing plan doesn't just cover the Victoria Park area but will run right across the city.  We will be targeting those people who are intending to cause trouble or commit crime in Leicester on what will be an extremely busy day.

Anyone coming along to events like this should following the following tips to help them have a safe and enjoyable time:

  • Have a set meeting place in case you lose family or friends.
  • Don't bring your valuables or wear expensive jewellery
  • Keep your belongings with you at all times
  • Don't carry too much cash
  • If you have to use your mobile phone remain aware of your surroundings. Try not to use in crowded areas or anywhere you feel unsafe.
