Information on Leicestershire

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Market Harborough which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

Officers were called to High Street in Market Harborough shortly after 11.11pm on Saturday July 19 after a report of an altercation between two men.

A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is described as critical.

Detective Sergeant Dan Granger said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed this assault, and who has not yet spoken to police, to please come forward.

"The incident happened outside the Trident Chip Shop on the High Street at a time when many pubs would have been closing for the night. Were you in the area of the fish and chip shop on High Street at that time on Saturday evening? Perhaps you were on your way home and remember seeing an altercation between two men? If you recall anything that might help this investigation, then please get in touch with police immediately."

A 19-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released on police bail while investigations continue.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DS 1577 Dan Granger at Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1577. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
