Information on Leicestershire

RESIDENTS in Highfields will be joining forces to take part in an environmental clean-up day.

Leicester City Councilâs environmental crime team is organising the event, which takes place on Saturday, July 19, from 10am to 1pm.

The day includes a litter pick, involving members of Trinity Life Church. City council environmental crime team staff and litter wardens will be on hand to give advice on waste-related issues and to staff an information display at the church.

Anyone interested in taking part should meet at Trinity Life Church, Upper Tichborne Street, Highfields. Volunteers will be provided with protective clothing and gloves.

PLANTING gets under way in Town Hall Square on Thursday (19th), in preparation for the visit of the Leicester in Bloom judges in July.

To mark the event the Cleaner City Team will hand out over 200 carnations to passers-by, in a bid to encourage them to play their part in the Leicester in Bloom competition.

Ian Lomas, Cleaner City Team manager, said: â Itâ s important to remember that Leicester in Bloom is about more than just flowers â itâ s also about keeping the streets clean and tidy and showcasing the regeneration work taking place.

â By handing out free flowers on Thursday, we hope to persuade people to think twice before dropping litter.â

The 200 carnations have been donated by Leicester Market and market traders.
