Information on Leicestershire

Police are seeking public help after criminal damage to cars in the St Margaret's Way area in Leicester.

In the first incident, damage estimated at £3000 was caused to 14 brand new cars on the garage forecourt overnight between 7pm on Tuesday, 17 June and Wednesday, 18 June at 8am at the Volkswagen garage on St Margaret's Way.

The second incident happened on Grafton Place on Friday afternoon, 20 June between 1.55pm and 5.10pm when the Seat Ibiza car was scratched on both sides causing about £700 of damage.

This was followed by another incident later that afternoon on St Margaret's Street, at 4.50pm and 6.50pm when the boot of an Audi TT was badly scratched causing £350 of damage.

PCSO 6093 Josephine McGrath, Hinckley Road Police Station said: "All vehicles had considerable damage which appears to have been caused by someone scratching the bodywork on each vehicle.

"The area is quite busy and someone may have seen people there without realising a crime was being committed at the time.  We are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incidents, which may assist with our enquiries, to please come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PCSO 6093 Josephine McGrath at Hinckley Road Police Station on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 6093.
