Man in Loughborough attacked following argument in the street

Posted on 24/06/08

A 25 year old man from Loughborough has suffered serious injuries to his head after he tried to settle a dispute between a man and a woman who were having an argument.

The victim, who doesn't wish to be identified, was walking along Park Road towards Shelthorpe at quarter to midnight on Friday 20 June 2008. He saw a couple having an argument and when he tried to intervene was attacked by the male with a knife.

He suffered three serious cuts to the left hand side of his head, above and behind his ear. He was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment and has had more than 40 stitches.

He has given the police a detailed description of his attacker;

The man is described as white, aged between 16 and 19 years of age and about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has short blond hair, a very skinny face which was clean shaven. He was wearing a white, or grey hooded top, with dark socks worn over his trousers and trainers.

The woman who was with him is described as white, aged between 15 and 18 years of age and about 5 feet 10 inches tall. She has a blond pony tail, with light blue jeans and a light top. She wore a lot of jewellery on her left hand.

Sergeant Pete Wheeler, from Loughborough CID, is leading the investigation. He said; "This was a particularly nasty attack on a man who was trying to help. He has been left with some nasty injuries to his head and may need plastic surgery. We are keen to trace the person responsible for this attack and would appeal to the public to help us.

"Were you in the area of Park Road at around midnight on Friday night? Did you see thetwo peoplehaving an argument? Did you see anyone running away from the scene? Those people may have had blood on their clothes and therefore been noticeable.

"We would particularly like to speak to the woman was with the attacker, we know that she tried to stop him from attacking the victim and hope that she might feel able to come forward and help us with our enquiries."

Inspector Mark Cuddihy, Commander of Loughborough local policing unit said; "This was an isolated incident but a particularly nasty one and we are keen to find the person responsible. Violent crime in Loughborough is very low; we've had 11 incidents since April 1st compared to 10 during the same period last year. Because it is so low, particularly for the size of the town, incidents like this stand out so we hope that someone will have the information we need to arrest the person responsible."

Anyone with any information can call Leicestershire Constabulary on Leicester (0116) 222 2222 or Crimestoppers which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
