Information on Leicestershire

Two teams of officers from Leicestershire Constabulary are attempting The Three Peaks Challenge later this month to raise money for two local hospices.

A group of officers from the Force's Serious Crime Team and another group from the Major Crime Team will be taking part in the challenge which involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours.

By completing the 26-mile hike up Ben Nevis in the Highlands, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and finally Mount Snowdon in North Wales, the teams hope to raise money for Leicestershire charities LOROS and Rainbows Children's Hospice.

Detective Constable Mick Gilroy from the Serious Crime Team said: "We chose to support these two charities because they provide such a valuable service to the communities we serve.

"LOROS has provided care and support to some of our colleagues and their families in the past, most recently to Detective Constable Lesley Orton who died earlier this year. With this in mind, we are aiming to raise as much money as possible to help both LOROS and Rainbows continue the excellent service they provide.

"The challenge is quite a gruelling one. Not only will we have to climb and descend each mountain in 24 hours, but also travel the 480 miles between them. However there is some fun rivalry between the teams and I am hoping that this, together with the incentive to raise money for two such worthy local charities, will spur us on to the end.

The two teams will attempt The Three Peaks Challenge on Monday June 23.
