Best bar awards ceremony
Posted on 16/06/08
/p>
A search to find the best-managed and safest bars in Leicester will end with a glittering awards ceremony this week.
The Best Bar None Awards will take place at Leicesters City Rooms on Wednesday 18th June.
Organised by the city council and Leicestershire police, and fire and rescue services, the scheme highlights the bars, pubs and clubs that are well-run and take customer safety seriously.
The awards ceremony will be hosted by former Leicester City star Steve Walsh, and local snooker legend Willie Thorne.
Bar owners, managers and staff from venues across the city will attend the ceremony, which starts at 6.45pm.
Now in its second year, the scheme aims to promote the responsible management of licensed premises and recognise the good work being done by bar managers in the city.
Bobby Smiljanic, city council licensing manager said: All of the bars who register with Best Bar None are visited by assessors who look at a range of public safety issues.
Bars that pass the assessment are given a certificate for display, and the chance to win the award for best in their category.
The awards ceremony is a good way of ensuring that the venues doing the best job get rewarded for it.
Cllr Robert Wann, the city council Cabinet member responsible for licensing said: We need to make sure our city is a safe and enjoyable place to visit, particularly at night, and promoting the responsible management of our pubs and clubs will help to do this.
Best Bar None is sponsored by Freeth Cartwright and the local licensed trade.
