Police Set Up Mini Moto Club to Tackle Antisocial Behaviour

Posted on 12/06/08

The police in Braunstone have set up a new Mini Moto Club which launches this week and will hope to reduce antisocial behaviour in the area.

The club, which is being launched at The Grove on Court Crescent on Saturday June 14, aims to provide local youngsters with a safe and supervised place to ride their mini motos - instead of illegally using them on the roads and park areas.

It has been set up by the Braunstone Joint Action Group which includes representatives from agencies such as the police, the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO) and the City Council.

Sgt Dave Stevenson from Braunstone Police Station said; "The illegal use of mini motos is an ongoing problem in Braunstone and many other parts of the force area.

"Not only are they noisy and a nuisance for the community, but in most cases the mini motos are ridden dangerously and illegally on public roads and on parks by people who do not have the skills or sufficient road safety awareness."

Police in Braunstone run many enforcement operations especially around the summer months to crack down on the use of mini motos and to educate the riders and the parents who purchase them for their children.

This club will offer young people in Braunstone a place to ride and enjoy their mini motos in a safe and supervised environment and hopefully lead to a reduction in associated antisocial behaviour.

The Braunstone Mini Moto Club will run weekly and is open to young people aged 6 to16.

For more information on the project or to report mini moto related antisocial behaviour in Braunstone contact Sgt Dave Stevenson from Braunstone Police Station on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0799.
