Information on Leicestershire

Coding for Keeps! That's the theme of the up-and-coming Blaby community safety partnership road-show.

The aim of the ‘Coding for Keeps' road-show is to raise awareness and improve education about marking your property so it can be identified if it is ever stolen.

Mark Chell, commander of the Blaby local policing unit, said: "Every year, property worth thousands of pounds is recovered by the police and not returned to its rightful owners. This is simply because it can't be properly identified.

"If items can't be identified, the police may not be able to prove they were stolen. They may also have to give your property back to the thieves and let them go."

The community safety partnership is taking this message to the streets and will be helping you property mark your stuff on their road-show.

The team will be in the police beat bus at various Co-op car parks throughout the district from Monday June 16 to Thursday June 26.

Why not speak to a member of the community safety team, which includes your local beat officer, PCSO and representatives from the council. They will be at:

  • Countersthorpe Co-op on Monday June 16, between 10am and 1pm
  • Whetstone Co-op on Tuesday June 17, between 10am to 1pm
  • Enderby Co-op on Wednesday June 18 between 2pm and 4pm
  • Cosby Co-op on Thursday June 19 between 10am and 1pm
  • Glenfield Co-op on Monday June 23 between 10am and 1pm
  • Royal Oak pub car park, Kirby Muxloe, on Tuesday June 24 between 10am and 1pm
  • Blaby District Council Offices, on Wednesday June 25 between 11:30am and 2:30pm
  • Leicester Forest East Co-op, on Thursday June 26, between 10am and 1pm
  • Stoney Stanton Co-op, on Thursday June 26 between 2pm and 4pm

The Blaby community safety partnership, which incorporates Leicestershire Constabulary, Blaby District Council and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue service among other local agencies, will be running the event and specialist advisers will be on hand to provide a range of information on property marking.

Teresa Neal, community safety officer for Blaby District Council, said: "This road-show is a great way to communicate with the local community and reassure the public that the council, police and other agencies are working together to raise awareness about issues that matter to you.

"We will be running this event in conjunction with the National Neighbourhood Watch week as well as trying to recruit new volunteers."
