Information on Leicestershire

PEOPLE living in part of Leicester are being asked whether they want a residents-only parking scheme in the area.

A series of road shows are taking place across Clarendon Park to give residents the chance to find out more about the proposed parking scheme and to give their views.

The move follows calls at the latest Castle ward community meeting to address parking problems in the area.

Current proposals include bringing in residents-only parking in an area between London Road, Victoria Park Road, Welford Road, Greenhill Road and Springfield Road, and also including Wordsworth Road, Keble Road, Ashford Road, Brookland Road, Brentwood Road and Westbury Road. There are also plans for parking restrictions on Queens Road.

A series of information stalls will be at sites across Clarendon Park from Monday June 9 until Saturday, June 14.

Residentsâ views will be then be reported back to the city council in order to decide whether such as scheme could be appropriate, and whether to explore the possibility further.

A more formal consultation would then take place before any decision was made.

Leicester City Councilâs cabinet member for transport, Councillor Patrick Kitterick, said: âWe want to hear peopleâs views, concerns and ideas for addressing parking issues in Clarendon Park.

âAt this stage we want to find out whether people would be interested in having such a scheme, and what measures they would like to see brought in.

âIf these replies suggest that residents-only parking could be appropriate, we would initiate a public consultation for all residents to have their say on the idea.â

The full list of locations and dates are: Monday June 9 - Lytton Road - 3pm to 6pm Tuesday June 10 - St John The Baptist Primary School - 2pm to 5pm Thursday June 12 - Co-op, Clarendon Park Road - 2pm to 6pm Friday June 13 - Greenhill Road (Welford Road end) - 3pm to 7pm Saturday June 14 - Queens Road - 10am to 5pm
