Robbery at Co op store in Kegworth

Posted on 05/06/08

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at the Co-op supermarket on Market Place in Kegworth.

The incident happened at around 9.15pm on Saturday May 30, 2008 when two men entered the store and walked behind the counter where two members of staff were standing.

They threatened staff before stealing a metal cash box containing a quantity of cash and making off from the store.

A witness saw the men get into a white Vauxhall Astra van parked on Whatton Road and drive off along the A6 Derby Road towards the M1. The van had red and yellow diagonal reflective strips across the back and possibly has a registration number which started with VK55.

It is believed one of the men had a knife but no threats were made. No-one was injured during the incident.

The suspects have been described as around 5'10" tall and of slim build. Both were wearing tops with the hoods up and scarves pulled up over their faces.

Detective Constable Paul Davies, who is investigating the incident, said: "The incident has left the staff shaken, but fortunately no-one was hurt during the robbery.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or remembers seeing two men matching this description or the vehicle beforehand to contact us. Perhaps you were in the store during the incident or maybe you saw the men run from scene?

"Any information, no matter how small it may seem to you, could help us in our investigations so please do not hesitate to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 291 Paul Davies on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0291. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
