Re-appeal to fatal collision in Cossington

Posted on 05/06/08

Officers from Leicestershire Constabulary's Serious Collision Unit are re-appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision in Cossington, Leicestershire.

The collision occurred at about 12.44pm on Friday February 8, 2008 on Syston Road at its junction with Main Street, Cossington and involved a silver Vauxhall Meriva and a yellow Mercian men's pedal cycle.

The driver of the Vauxhall Meriva was not injured. The pedal cyclist, Mr David Ian Clifton Cooper (70) of South Croxton, Leicestershire, received serious injuries and was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he died later on the same day.

PC Chris Gorman, who is investigating the incident, said: "Investigations are still ongoing into this collision and we would like to make a further appeal for witnesses.

"We are also keen to trace the owner of a 4x4 vehicle which was seen parked near to junction where the collision took place. It is believed that they were spoken to at the scene but left without leaving their full details. This person may have witnessed the collision so we hope that they will come forward and give us any information that they may have.

"Again, I urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision or remembers seeing either vehicle beforehand to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1838 Chris Gorman on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police office and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1838. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
