Information on Leicestershire

Officers from Leicestershire Constabulary's road policing unit are issuing a further appeal to trace a taxi driver who may have been a vital witness after a collision in Leicester.

The collision occurred just before 2am on Wednesday April 30 on Fosse Road South, Leicester when a silver Ford Escort, which had failed to stop for police officers, was involved in a collision with three unattended vehicles and a pedestrian.

The 21-year-old driver was arrested and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. The 17-year-old passenger was also arrested at the scene and treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary for injuries sustained during the collision. He was released no further action but has since be re-arrested and is currently on police bail pending enquiries.

The pedestrian, a 22-year-old woman, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where her condition has been described as serious but stable. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Officers are still keen to trace a silver taxi which was travelling along Westcotes Drive towards Narborough Road at the junction with Fosse Road South.

PC Nick Bryan, from the Serious Collision Investigation unit, said: "Since our last appeal made two weeks ago this driver has yet to come forward.

"It is believed that this vehicle was caused to make an emergency stop during the incident and the driver could be a vital witness. We would like to make a further appeal for this person and any possible occupants that were in the vehicle to please come forward. It is essential that they contact us urgently as they could have vital information for our investigation.

"We would also like to appeal to anyone else who may witnessed the collision or saw the silver Ford Escort beforehand to please contact us."

Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to contact PC 87 Nick Bryan on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0087. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile ‘phone service providers may charge for this call.
