Objects thrown from a bridge in Hugglescote

Posted on 03/06/08

Police officers are appealing for witnesses after stones were thrown from a bridge causing damage to two vehicles in Hugglescote.

The first incident took place around 1.55pm on Wednesday May 28, 2008 when a large stone was thrown the bridge on Grange Road at a Nissan Micra causing damage to the windscreen and bonnet.

Around 5 minutes later, a brick was thrown again from the bridge at a Ford Transit van damaging the roof. Neither driver was injured.

PC Steve Harrison, who is investigating the incidents, said: "Throwing objects from bridges at vehicles is a very dangerous practice, which could lead to a serious incident and even cause the death of a driver. These incidents are taken very seriously and we will not tolerate these actions.

"A group of youths were seen on the bridge at around this time and they made off towards Bardon after the second incident.

"We would urge anyone who has any information about the people responsible for this incident to come forward. We also ask anyone who witnesses incidents like these to contact the police immediately."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 819 Steve Harrison at North West Leicestershire LPU on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0819.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
