Man charged following security alert in Leicester city centre

A man has been charged following an incident on a bus in Leicester city centre.

The incident happened at 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday May 29) on a bus in Charles Street and resulted in Charles Street and surrounding streets being cordoned off while a controlled explosion was carried out on a bag. The cordon was removed at around 8.45pm.

A 43-year-old man has been charged with an offence under Section 4A of the Public Order Act, causing a public nuisance and impersonating a police officer.

He is remanded in custody to appear at Leicester Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Saturday May 31).
