Oadby residents are being asked to show their loving side and get involved in a clean up event next week.

‘We Love Sandhurst Street green' is being held on Friday May 30, 2008, starting at 12pm. The clean up day is being run in conjunction with a national initiative called Hope 08, where Christian volunteers devote their time to support community events such as this.

Members of the Oadby Baptist Church, local residents, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and the neighbourhood beat team, as well as Inspector Dan Pedley, the commander of the Oadby and Wigston local policing unit, will be rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to improve the appearance of the area.

Andy Raybould, police beat officer for Oadby, said: "We want to breathe new life into the green and make it a positive place for people to use. We will be getting our gardening gloves on and pulling up the weeds and trimming the hedges as well as cleaning up the car park and alleyway.

"We are asking for anyone who has an interest in the area to come along and get stuck in. There will be tea and biscuits provided by the Baptist Church and we have tables and chairs laid out so people can relax and enjoy the area."

There will also be a historical display of Oadby situated inside the library for interested visitors. This will be on display throughout the day.

Commander of the Oadby and Wigston local policing unit, Inspector Dan Pedley, said: "We want to completely transform the look of the area and demonstrate how effective partnership work can benefit everyone.

"We are working alongside the national initiative Hope 08 and the Christian volunteers who have devoted their time and effort to help us achieve our goal of making Sandhurst Street green more enjoyable for everyone.

"I would also like to thank ASDA for their help and support as they have proved invaluable in this community event."

For more information contact PC 1030 Andy Raybould on 0116 222 2222. Follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1030.
