Tool and Garden Equipment Coding Days in Oadby and Wigston
Posted on 29/05/08

Householders and tradespeople can help protect their garden equipment and work tools from theft by getting Oadby and Wigston police volunteers to code them will indelible marker and a tamper resistant coating.
Police community volunteers from the Crime and Disorder Action Group will be at events held on:
Wednesday 28 May, 2008 in the Sainsbury's car park Glenn Road, Oadby from 10am - 12noon
- Wednesday 28 May, 2008 on Kenilworth Drive, Oadby, next to the Tigers Training Ground from 1pm - 3pm
- Wednesday June 4, 2008 on the Beat Bus located at Tesco car park, Blaby Road, South Wigston from 6pm - 8pm
- Tuesday June 24, 2008 on Willow Park, Aylestone Lane, Wigston from 5pm - 8pm
- Tuesday July 1, 2008 in the ASDA car park, Oadby in conjunction with Annual Community Day from 10am - 5pm
Linda Spencer, community initiatives coordinator, said: "These coding days are a great opportunity to postcode your tools or garden equipment to make them less appealing to thieves and easier for us to trace if stolen."
"The tools and equipment can also be marked using an ultra-violet pen. The pen's ink is practically invisible to the naked eye but shows up under special UV lamps, enabling police to trace items stolen from vans, garages and garden sheds back to their owners."
For more information about the tool coding days please contact Linda Spencer at Leicestershire Constabulary on (0116) 222 2222 and enter her identification 7315 when prompted and leave a message.
