Road closures after firearm discharged in Leicester
Posted on 15/05/08

Three men have been arrested following an incident in Leicester in which shots were discharged.
The incident happened shortly before 9.15pm last night (Wednesday May 14) on Shanklin Drive in Leicester near to its junction with Carrisbrooke Road when shots were fired by the occupants of a vehicle at another vehicle travelling along the road.
No one is thought to have been injured in the incident.
Police enquiries so far have led to the arrest of three men in their 20s at a house in Hinckley. Themen are currently in police custody where they will be questioned by detectives. The address has been cordoned off to allow for forensic examination.
Shanklin Drive, Meadvale Road and Carrisbrooke Drive have been closed to allow officers to conduct a detailed examination of the scene. The roads are likely to remain closed for some time and motorists are advised to take an alternative route.
Enquiries to trace the second vehicle are underway and house to house enquiries are being conducted in the Shanklin Drive area this morning.
Detective Inspector Simon Hurst said: "A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway. We are carrying out vital forensic examinations of the scene in Shanklin Drive and officers are likely to be there for some time.
"Motorists are asked to avoid the Shanklin Drive area and take alternative routes while this crucial work is carried out."
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Leicestershire Constabulary on (0116) 222 2222 quoting reference number 830 of Wednesday May 14. Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers, which is free and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
