A POPULAR fun physical activity class for parents and toddlers is continuing its tour of Charnwood.

The free Mini Movers sessions are being run by Charnwood Borough Council’s Play Rangers and have been well attended when recently held in Thurmaston and the Loughborough Cobden and Shelthorpe Children’s Centres.

Now the tour is moving on to Anstey, Sileby and Syston and classes will be held weekly – with the exception of the half-term holiday – until Christmas.

Children up to the age of five are allowed to attend with parents or carers and will enjoy playing in ways that will aid their development and motor skills for later life.

Rachel Forbes, Charnwood Borough Council’s Play Ranger, said: “Mini Movers is about young children exploring the equipment available and playing games based around movement and motor skills.

“Children will be led in fun activities based on exploration and investigation, all that revolves around physical play like crawling, throwing, climbing, balancing and more.

“A key part of the Mini Movers groups is educating parents and carers that physical activity does not just mean sport and can be easily incorporated into everyday life. Simple games and play for the home will make up an integral part of Mini Movers.”

The Anstey Mini Movers meet at the Jubilee Hall, in Stadon Road, every Tuesday between 10am and 11.30am, while parents from Syston can take their youngsters to the Methodist Hall, in the High Street, on Wednesdays at the same time.

Mini Movers classes in Sileby begin on Friday, September 26 at the Community Sports Hall, in the High Street, from 10am.

Cllr Jane Hunt (Conservative Councillor for Loughborough Nanpantan), Charnwood Borough Council’s Champion for Children, Young People and Play, said: “These events have been very popular in other parts of the borough and I am very pleased that they are coming to the south of the borough.

“This is a fun and sporting activity for our younger residents. I am sure they will enjoy it.”

The Charnwood Play Ranger Tour, which is funded by the Big Lottery Children’s Play Initiative Programme, delivers free open access play activities for youngsters up to the age of 16 and their families throughout the Borough.
