Future Bright - Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s (LPT) first ever open art show will complete its tour of the county at Charnwood Museum in Loughborough. The exhibition, featuring work by some of the most inspiring artists in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, will be opened by the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Councillor Tony Kershaw, the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Stephen Campbell, and LPT’s Non-Executive Director Elizabeth Haynes. It will be open to the public from Thursday 4th September 2008.
The exhibition demonstrates how art - creating or viewing it - is a great way to improve your wellbeing. Lydia Towsey, Creative Arts Coordinator for LPT, said
“We think that art is a great way to improve your mental health and stay happy. That’s why we’re having this show.”
It is hoped that the exhibition will get people talking about mental health and how we can improve our own mental wellbeing. Mental ill health is more common than many people believe and as many as one in four people are likely to experience a mental health problem during the course of their life.
Tony Kershaw, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, said:
“If art can help us all to feel much happier and improve our mental well being then this exhibition is an excellent way of achieving this. The magnificent artwork also demonstrates the wealth of talent that we have in our local area.”
Stephen Campbell, the Mayor of Charnwood said “This exhibition has been a great opportunity for people to use their skills and creativity to express their own feelings about the future and to showcase their talent.”
Antony Sheehan, Chief Executive of LPT said: “It has been interesting to see how people have interpreted the theme ‘Future Bright’. Art can be a great source of therapy for many people. Artistic and creative activities can promote a feeling of wellbeing and positive mental health. The Arts can play a valuable role in helping to reduce the stigma sometimes associated with mental illness and I hope local people will show their support by visiting our exhibition and voting for their favourite pieces.”
The Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust will purchase the most public voted for pieces at the end of the exhibition. These will then be displayed in prominent areas around the Trust. So, don’t miss out: brighten up your day and have your say...
Future Bright’ can be seen at Charnwood Museum from 4 September to 28 September. Charnwood Museum is in Queens Park in the centre of Loughborough and is open from 10.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 2pm-5pm on Sundays. The exhibition is free.
Charnwood Museum is run as a partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council.
