A University of Leicester psychology postgraduate is to run a half marathon in memory of people who have lost their lives to cancer- including a University professor who inspired her.

Kim Drake, who is reading for her PhD in the School of Psychology, will run the half marathon in the Robin Hood Festival of Running 2008 in Nottingham on 14 September.

Kim said: “I've chosen to run for Cancer Research UK, as a good friend of mine has cancer and it will be exactly a year since I lost a couple of people I was very fond of to the disease - a family member and the other is Professor Michael Joseph who was very supportive throughout the first year of my PhD and is someone I greatly admired and looked up to.  I'm therefore running in memory of some very special people and for my friend.”

Professor Joseph was former Professor of Neuroscience within the School of Psychology. He came to Leicester in 1996 from a Readership in Behavioural Neurochemistry at the Institute of Psychiatry in London.
