Charnwood Borough Council Offices in Loughborough

RESIDENTS in the Hastings Ward of Loughborough will be able to raise issues concerning them and discuss ideas for improvements to the area during a special Ward Walk next week.

Representatives from Charnwood Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council and the Police will be in the Peel Drive area on Monday, July 14 to listen to people’s views.

They will also hear the positive progress that has been made in the area with success stories such as the creation of the Loughborough Town Centre Collective (LTCC) tenants group, the installation of CCTV which has made residents feel safer, cleaner streets, while environmental crimes, such as graffiti and fly-tipping, are dealt with more effectively.

The Ward Walk is one of a series taking place across the Borough and they aim to make a real difference to local communities.

Events have already taken place in Mountsorrel and Syston and many of the concerns raised have already been addressed, including parking, speeding, graffiti, fly-tipping, dog fouling and housing.

All the issues raised are recorded and passed onto the relevant service or agency to either action or respond to as appropriate.

Cllr Richard Shepherd, the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: “It is important to acknowledge what has been achieved so far in the Peel Drive area and to see what still needs to be done.”

The event starts with a drop in session between 2pm and 3pm at the Moira Centre – and the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Stephen Campbell, will be attending from 2.45pm.

He will then be taking part in the Ward Walk, which sets off at 3pm, before everyone returns to the Moira Centre at 4.30pm for another opportunity for residents to have their say until 5.30pm.

Inspector Mark Cuddihy, Commander of Loughborough local policing unit, said: “The area is known as a priority neighbourhood, which means the police and the Council have put a lot of resources into it and it’s made a difference.

“The increase in information from the residents has enabled us to take action and make arrests and we know the vast majority of residents want it to be a better place to live and have pride in the area.”

If you are unable to attend but would like to make comments or suggestions, then call Loughborough (01509) 632 516, email <mailto:community.strategy@charnwood.gov.uk> or write to Charnwood Borough Council, Freepost MID 24276, Loughborough, LE11 0BR.
