Testing the graffiti protocol

Posted on 06/06/08

graffiti at Loughborough Wharf "Kings take it up da shitter"Earlier this week Charnwood Borough Council announced new protocols on the removal of graffiti. These were swiftly followed by statements by the local Labour Party highlighting the councils failure to deal with the issue.

Consequently the in-Loughborough team decided to check how rapidly Charnwood Borough Council reacts and graffiti is removed.

On hoardings around the undeveloped part of Loughborough Wharf there has been graffiti for some time. This graffiti falls under the category Racist, Political, Sexist, Sexual Act Homophobic Defamatory or Offensive and is on commercial property. Under the protocols Charnwood Borough Council should:

a) Request the graffiti is cleaned off within 24 hours.

b) If not cleaned off within 24 hours Street Management officers will decide if it is in the public interest to clean off at CBC cost within a further 24 hours.

Charnwood Borough Council were advised of graffiti and sent pictures at 12:46pm on 6th June 2008. The clock is ticking....
