Loughborough does the double at national art awards

Posted on 05/06/08

Rhiannon Fraser, a Fine Art student at Loughborough University, has been awarded joint first prize in this years Boundary Gallery Figurative Art Prize.

She shares the 10,000 first prize with Ruth Murray, who graduated from the same course at Loughborough in 2006.

The Figurative Art Prize, now in its fourth year, celebrates the work of the most talented UK art students. Most of the candidates have not exhibited previously and the event provides an ideal opportunity to spot up-and-coming artists at the beginning of their career.

Over a hundred students from art schools all over the UK submitted examples of their work, with almost 30 finalists shortlisted by a panel of judges.

Of her success, Rhiannon said: It was great to be exhibiting for the first time in London, and to actually win first place in a national competition is fantastic!

Johanna Hallsten, Loughboroughs Fine Art Programme Coordinator, said: Our students have done it again! Congratulations to them both.

It is a fantastic achievement for Rhiannon and Ruth, who is currently studying for a masters degree at the Royal College London. Both are talented artists and I have no doubt that this wont be the last we hear of these two young painters.
