Charnwood Museum Goes Splash
Posted on 04/06/08
P. Klein

An exciting and different water themed art exhibition is opening at Charnwood Museum in Loughborough on 5th June. A Charnwood Splash not only brings together the artwork of pupils aged from 12 to 14 from three local schools, but also gives the children the opportunity to see their work exhibited professionally.
The schools taking part are Humphrey Perkins High School, De Lisle Catholic Science College and Woodbrook Vale High School. The theme of Water links all the work and alludes to the Museums previous history as a Victorian swimming pool and baths. In fact the gallery in which the work will be exhibited, the Changing Room Gallery, is positioned where the pools changing cubicles used to be.
The young artists have responded imaginatively and interpreted the theme with a variety and fusion of materials and techniques. The pupils produced the work in Art Club sessions during lunchtimes and after school. The exhibition is a testament to the commitment these young people have shown in creating these inspired watery images!
The exhibition will be opened by Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Stephen Campbell and the Vice-Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Councillor Roger Wilson at 1.45pm on Thursday 5 June.
A Charnwood Splash can be seen at Charnwood Museum from Thursday 5 June to Sunday 6 July. Charnwood Museum is in Queens Park in the centre of Loughborough and is open from 10.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 1pm-4pm on Sundays. The exhibition is free.
Charnwood Museum is run as a partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council.
