Protest is a new joint exhibition presented by the Charnwood Arts Pixel and Grain Gallery, Loughborough University and Charnwood Museum. It will run from Friday 16th May to Sunday 15th June at the Charnwood Museum, Granby Street, Loughborough.

On the eve of the 40th anniversary of student unrest in Paris, this exhibition examines the many forms of protest throughout the world.

The exhibition features the work of six Polish photographers who have each interpreted the theme of Protest in their own way.

Jerzy Bucki specialises in street photography, travel photography and documenting life in both the industrial region of Upper Silesia and the unspoilt, 'lost in time' region of Podlasie in Eastern Poland.

Swiatek Wojtkowiak works as a guide for an adventure travel company and as a photographer for The Wide Angle Agency. His main area of interest is the Sahara and Sahel belt, nomads, underprivileged groups, ethnic minorities and indigenous people.

Maciej Dakowicz now works at the University of Glamorgan as a Research Assistant and a PhD student in Computing. He is a frequent contributor to NEED magazine the humanitarian magazine based in the US.

Marek Locher is a member of Polish Art Photographers (ZPAF) living in Myslowice and working as a graphic designer. He takes photographs of industrial architecture and ruined post-industrial places.

Rafal Bielawa specialises in portraits and the way they protest against the world in their small individual ways such as tattooing. They protest by being different.

Radek-Radoslaw Komenda was born in Bialystock and now lives in Cardiff. His pictures are of two kinds. The first is a personal protest against dreary routine grey life, routine and the well-know trail. The second is to draw attention to the camera itself, not just as a tool to take photos but to do miracles..

Later in May, the exhibition will also include a collection of locally made banners following in the tradition of trade union banners. These have been created as part of the Universitys arts programme.

Protest runs from Friday 16th May to Sunday 15th June at the Charnwood Museum, Granby Street, Loughborough.

Charnwood Museum is a Partnership between Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council.
