Offfcers are appealing for a vital witness to come forward after a fatal road traffic collision.

The incident happened at around 10.20pm on Saturday May 5th 2007 on Scraptoft Lane near to its junction with Peters Drive and involved a blue Toyota Corolla, a red Citroen Saxo, a red Nissan Micra and a red Ford Mondeo.

The driver of the Saxo, Mr Ricky Singh Kler (20) from Thurnby Lodge, Leicester received fatal injuries. His vehicle was travelling county bound. The driver of the Micra, which was travelling towards the city, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and discharged the following day. The driver of the Corolla, which was travelling towards Humberstone, was not injured. The Mondeo was parked and unoccupied at the time of the collision.

A 48-year-old woman was subsequently cautioned for failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Sergeant Simon Eyley, who is investigating the incident, said: "Investigations have been continuing into this collision and new information has since come to light that a woman may have witnessed the collision and has not come forward to speak to us".

"A few days after the incident, family members of Mr Kler were laying flowers at the location when they were approached by a woman who said she lived locally and had witnessed the collision".

"As part of our ongoing investigation into the incident, we have made numerous house to house enquiries in the area surrounding the location but have been unable to identify her.

"This woman could prove a vital witness and we need to trace her. She may have important information that could prove essential to the enquiry team and I would urge her to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Sgt 525 Simon Eyley in the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0116 2222222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0525. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
