Services for older people are in the spotlight at an interactive meeting in Hinckley next week.

Residents will able to hear from the County Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Older People's Forum and the Primary Care Trust at the Hinckley Area Community Forum.

Community Forums are part of a new county-wide initiative involving Leicestershire County Council, District and Borough Councils, Leicestershire and Rutland Primary Care Trust, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Together partners. There are 27 forums across Leicestershire which bring together elected representatives across all tiers of local goverment - County, District and Borough and Parish, together with a range of other community representatives.

Hinckley people will also be able to learn about what is being done to improve the local area and give their views on George Eliot Hospital.

Community Forums are a new kind of meeting allowing people to learn about bigger issues affecting the area, get answers to queries and influence local decision-making. Although they do not have formal decision-making powers, forums are important bodies of influence - there is a 'duty to respond' to actions recommended.

Anyone with a query about a local issue such as speeding and community facilities and can also go along and quiz people in a 'Question Time' session.

People from local authorities, the police and the NHS will be on hand to talk about their services and answer questions - all residents need to do to take part is turn up.

Roger Ellis, Chair of the Hinckley Area Community Forum, said: "I extend a warm welcome to all residents to come along and be involved in shaping the policies that will affect their lives in the future.

Residents from Hinckley, Barwell, Burbage and Earl Shilton are invited to go along to Hinckley Community Forum next Thursday (8th May). The meeting is being held in Committee Room 4, Florence House, St Mary's Road, Hinckley between 7pm and 9pm.
