Students from Loughborough University School of Art and Design (LUSAD) are celebrating again after a phenomenal win at the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition.

Nine students fought off entries from other universities and colleges, designers in industry and freelance designers throughout the UK to receive five awards and four commendations for their outstanding designs. All of the students are in their second or third year of Woven Textiles and Printed Textiles degrees at Loughborough.

Lauren Balding, a Woven Textiles student, excelled at the award ceremony, winning first prize in the Woven fabric for womenswear or menswear category, and an impressive two commendations went to Carlene Carlson and Sarah Kendal. Carlene Carlson also received second prize for a Knitted or woven fabric designed for interior textiles, with Lucy Murfin picking up a commendation.

Second and third prizes were also awarded to Joanne Edden and Hannah Jefferies for a Surface pattern design, suitable for interiors textiles, and Jennifer Lammas received a commendation. Frances Hickingbotham received a commendation for Crossing the Boundaries an award for innovative textile designs for fashion fabrics that involve a combination of textile processes, and Emma Godden won third prize in the British Wool Textile Export Corporation Award for excellence, for a design of a contemporary woven fabric for menswear and womenswear.

An example of Lauren Baldings work. Lauren won first prize in the Woven fabric for womenswear or menswear.

All students have been invited to the Bradford Textile Design Society design seminar and awards ceremony at the National Media Museum in Bradford on 9 May, where their work is on display.

The Bradford Textile Society Design Competition is recognised as being the most prestigious competition of its kind in the UK, sponsored by Premier Vision, the British Wool Textile Export Corporation, the Textile Finishers Association, the British Textile Designers Guild, the Clothworkers Foundation and others.

Jan Shenton, Programme Leader in Loughborough Universitys Woven Textile Design Programme, expressed her delight at the awards. She said: I am thrilled with the results, all of the students have done fantastically well. Entering work for a national competition such as the Bradford awards gives them a fantastic opportunity to conceptualise their work and be judged by distinguished design professionals.

LUSADs Textile Design Programme has an excellent track record of success in national awards. Designs produced by staff and students are sold worldwide to household names in the fashion and interior design industry, including Louis Vuitton, Prada, Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg, Christian Lacroix, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.
