Melton Borough Council has secured 120K of funding from Leicestershire County Council to invest in a Childrens/Community Centre on the Fairmead Estate, which will be achieved through extending the space available at the existing Fairmead Community Centre. This development will be discussed with local residents at a specially convened meeting to be held on 22nd April 2008 commencing at 6.30pm in the Fairmead Community Centre.

This meeting will also be used to discuss the future of the estate with local residents. Last October people living there were surveyed and around a third of people who responded felt that some form of redevelopment of the estate was needed and many more people expressed dissatisfaction with the estate as a place to live. We are prepared to look at all potential solutions to make improvements, including the possibility of redevelopment, but before we do it is important that we hear first hand the views of the residents. These views will then be fed into the next meeting of the Councils Community and Social Affairs Committee to be held on 11th June 2008 when the future of the estate will be discussed in detail.

Cllr Joe Orson, Deputy Leader and Ward Councillor said: The meeting on 22nd April is vitally important to the people living on the Fairmead Estate and it would be wonderful to see as many people as possible at the meeting.
