TAKE GREAT STRIDES TO AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE
Posted on 09/04/08
P. Klein

A PACKED programme of Guided Walks in and Around Charnwood is officially launched with six daily strolls next week.
The first in a total of 69 walks organised by Charnwood Borough Council between now and the end of year takes place on Monday (April 14).
Starting from the Armstrong Mill Car Park in Shepshed at 10am, the free three-mile walk sets off along a former railway track before discovering the fields and streams beyond. Afterwards, there is a chance to enjoy refreshments with the walk leaders in the Armstrong Mill Caf.
The Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Joe Tormey, will be attending the event and everyone taking part is advised to wear walking boots.
For the first time, Guided Walks in and Around Charnwood 2008 includes wheelchair friendly walks alongside free community guided walks or Blue Badge guided walks which involve a small cost.
Other walks to mark the beginning of the new season next week take place on:
Tuesday, April 15th Meet at School Lane Car Park, Birstall, at 10am for a 2.5 mile wheelchair friendly walk around the lakes nearby.
Wednesday, April 16th Meet at Morrisons Car Park (near the path), Maxwell Drive, Loughborough at 10am and enjoy a five mile walk to Dishley, Hathern and Garendon.
Thursday, April 17 Meet opposite Queniborough Church at 10am and take a leisurely 2.5 mile walk across the fields.
Friday, April 18th Meet at Morrisons Car Park, Maxwell Drive, Loughborough, at 10.30am for a two mile stroll around Thorpe Acre.
Saturday, April 19th Meet at the Watermead Car Park, near the Hope and Anchor pub in Syston, at 10am before enjoying a two mile walk round King Lears Lake and beyond.
Nita Pearson, Charnwood Borough Councils Active Lifestyle Development Officer, said: Walking is a relaxing and enjoyable way to keep healthy in fact its the perfect way to exercise.
Weve had a fantastic response to the 2008 programme of walks and part of that is down to the health benefits that people realise are associated with a good stroll.
Its also a great way to make new friends and see some of Charnwoods picturesque countryside.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet member for Leisure, added: If you take part in this programme, youll discover that theres much
more to Charnwood than you ever realised in terms of countryside, landscape, waiting for your enjoyment.
This is something for the whole family to do together. And we dont race along we give time to stop, stare and think twice about how lucky we are!
Copies of the Guided Walks in and Around Charnwood 2008 are available from the Councils Southfields Offices, Loughborough Town Hall, Loughborough Leisure Centre, Soar Valley Leisure Centre, South Charnwood Swimming Pool, Charnwood Museum, Parish Council offices, Libraries and doctors surgeries in the Borough.
