Diabetic patients will be dilated so please note that you may not ba able to drive after your examination
Please bring your NHS number (found on your medical card) and national insurance number
Please allow plenty of time for your appointment, so we can do a thorough eye examination
Patients with low vision please bring your current magnifiers
Contact lens wearers please wear your lenses for your all your appointment. You should also bring you contact lens case and spectacles.

Why eye exams are important
Your eyesight is a precious sense - so it is very important that you have regular eye examinations, at least every 2 years, whether you feel you need spectacles or not.
Recent research suggested that there is a lack of information available to the public and that they are not educated or informed about health risks.
48% stated that deteriorating eyesight was one of their key concerns
82% of us would least like to lose our sight
87% said that they would be more willing to go for an eye examination if they knew it detected medical problems
1 in 10 claim they have not had an eye test for more than 5 years
68% of the population state that they have experienced some sight problems
In addition, according to the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) nine out of ten people fear losing their sight above any other sense but one in three still failed to have an eye test in the last two years. In addition two million people in the UK are at risk of needlessly losing their sight.

We are registered with the local Primary Care Trust to provide domiciliary eye examinations to patients who are housebound.

corporate eyecare:
The corporate eyecare scheme allows businesses to use ryatt optometry to provide staff with eye examinations helping employers fulfil their obligations.
The health and safety display screen equipment (DSE) states that:

‘all employed habitual users of DSE are entitled to an eye examination paid for by their employer. The employer is also required to pay for any spectacles required specifically for VDU use.’

Our scheme provides you with a comprehensive individual employee VDU eye examination report.

The 1992 Health and Safety (VDU) Regulations
Employers whose staff use VDUs have a responsibility to provide:
Full eye examination by a qualified optometrist. A screening test alone does not satisfy the requirements.
Regular follow up eye examinations, at a time depending on the individual circumstances and a recommendation given by the optometrist.
Eye exams for new employees.
VDU corrective spectacles, if required, for VDU use.

Spectacle Frames
We cater for all tastes in spectacle frames, from designer to budget styles. We have designer ranges such as X-eyes, Public, Bench, Largerfeld, Ray Ban and Jaeger. For children we stock Action man, Superman, BMX, Barbie frames.

If you have old unwanted and damaged frames – please hand them into reception and we shall forward them to eye charities that can make use of these and help people in less developed countries.

Spectacle Lenses
There are many new developments in spectacle lens technology. Thinner, lighter lenses. A variety of lens coatings. New types of light sensitive lenses and brilliant technology that allows us to individually design and tailor make a lens for maximum efficiency, vision and comfort. And lots more – all designed to improve your vision and make your spectacles more comfortable to wear.

Single vision
Single vision lenses provide the same vision correction over the entire lens. They correct a single, particular vision such as distance if you’re short sighted (myopia) or close up if you’re long sighted (a condition called hyperopia).
Suitable for either distance or reading prescriptions
Wide field of view for a fixed distance
Available in a large range of lens types

Bifocal lenses
Bifocal lenses have two separate vision zones, separated by a line, that correct both near and distant vision. The top segment of the lens provides correction for distance vision whilst the bottom segment provides correction for close up.
One pair of glasses for reading or driving
2 fixed distances to use
Available in different lens types
May require additional specs for intermediate vision (such as computer use)

Varifocal lenses

Varifocal lenses (progressives) offer clear vision at all distances with the added benefit of not having any visible lines on the lens - So your glasses don’t give your age away!

The lenses have distance vision when looking straight ahead, near vision at the lower part of the lens and all distances in between, which enables the wearer to switch between reading a book and watching television without switching glasses.

Scratch resistant
Scratch resistant lenses provide protection from the everyday accidental damage. The extra protection prolongs the life of the lens whilst providing clearer vision.

100% UV protection

Polarised
Whilst conventional sunglasses reduce brightness, only polarized lenses eliminate glare, which in turn reduces eyestrain, squinting and temporary blindness.

100% glare protection, polarised lenses channel light in just one direction, rather than many direction as the suns rays bounce off horizontal surfaces such as water and snow.
Eliminates glare from snow, water, roads
Improves vision and comfort
100% glare protection
ideal for driving or skiing

Thin and lightweight lenses
New Hi-index materials mean that your lenses can be made thinner, lighter and better looking. This is especially good news if you have a high power prescription. No longer will you need to wear thick unsightly lenses or have your choice of frames restricted.
Lenses that are thinner and up to 30% lighter provide an improved cosmetic appearance and are more comfortable to wear.
Improved appearance
Enable you to have the frame you want
Half the weight of the equivalent glass lenses
More comfortable

Tints and filters

Excessive exposure to the sun’s ultra violet rays can be harmful to your eyes and may cause long term damage. If you are at risk then a UV filter for your lenses is advisable. A wide choice of tints is also available to reduce the amount of light getting to your eyes and to make your vision more comfortable.
Polycarbonate lenses

If your job or hobby requires extra protection from your lenses, polycarbonate is probably the answer. Ten times stronger than ordinary plastic, polycarbonate lenses are virtually unbreakable. They are ideal for children as well as for activities such as squash, cricket and tennis.

VDU lenses

If you use a computer regularly and experience eyestrain, you may benefit from spectacles designed for VDU use. Under European legislation you could be entitled to an eye examination and VDU glasses paid for by your employer.

Quality, value and service

When you visit our practice you will receive excellent value as well as professional eye care and the latest high quality products.

We’ll advise you on the best type of lenses for your needs, and help you select a frame that enhances your appearance. For example, we can combine ultra-thin hi-index lenses with lightweight titanium frames – so you’ll hardly know that you are wearing glasses. Or perhaps you have a special requirement with your job or sport. Your practitioner will assess your vision and advise you accordingly.

We provide comprehensive eye examinations together with a wide choice of quality frames and lenses. Whatever your needs you will receive personal attention and affordable eye care from our practice.

CONTACT LENSES

Contact lenses are a large part of most practices and we are no different. Our extensive experience means that we are able to fit and advise on all available contact lens options. We are not tied to just one contact lens manufacturer.

Have you thought about contacts?

There has never been a better time to wear contact lenses. New lens designs and materials are available and modern lenses are more comfortable and affordable than ever before. Often contact lenses cost less than a pair of glasses.

Freedom

Contact lenses give you the freedom to see all around without annoying rims of spectacle frames spoiling the view. Many people feel that they are more natural and comfortable wearing contact lenses.

Choosing the right type of lenses

Do not worry about making a decision. We will ensure that your needs are met and that the best lens for those needs are used. Of course, there are lots of options that will be explained. You can opt for tinted lenses to change your appearance, Ultra Violet filter lenses for maximum protection, bifocals or varifocal lenses, disposable and regular lenses.

Contact Lenses for Sport
These give excellent all round vision, and there are no problems with them staying in place, no matter how active you are. For the Sports Vision Day we are featuring daily disposable lenses and MaxSight, a new tinted sports contact lens.
MAXSIGHT
Now the benefit of sports tinted spectacle lenses are available in contact lenses. In Milton Keynes, exclusively from Lesley Arkin Optometrist, you can experience Nike MAXSIGHT - See Sport Better - sport-tinted contact lenses. They have been developed by Nike Vision together with world-renowned contact lens manufacturer Bausch & Lomb. Finally, athletes can find the edge they have been looking for!
Available in two colours:
Grey-Green tint - developed for golf and running, for use in sports played in bright light, where visual comfort and glare are concerns. This tint improves detail and contour recognition.

Amber tint - for fast moving sports such as football, tennis and rugby, where tracking a fast-moving ball is critical. This amber tint makes the ball `pop’ off the background.
These contact lenses give distortion free vision whether you need a prescription or not. There is no frame to get in the way and no lens to fog up.
Some comments by wearers:
“I can see the ball much better while passing from sun to shade.”
Marco Materazzi, Inter football club
“They brighten my vision and sharpen my focus, reducing fatigue and helping me concentrate for longer.”
Paula Radcliffe
