Further Information on Enterprise SMS

When Social Networking started out in the late 90s they were chiefly seen by all and sundry as a place to socialize, and for casual networking.

With the opening of Facebook initially just to certain university students in 2004 and growth in 2006 across other educational institutions in US, UK and Canada, it quickly became one of the most talked about and used social sites on the internet.  By late 2007 into 2008 it was the world.  Soon after Early Adopter businesses such as Starbucks, Ford, Zappos and Coco-Cola saw the direct use, value and benefit of Social Media and quickly jumped on the social media train, creating a now concrete footprint that is steadfast in the social media community.  Starbucks is the foremost company, in regards to fans on their page, and Coco-Cola is 2nd  (last time I checked that is); approx 7.5 million and approximately 5.7 million respectively. Now every other business enterprise  around the world is attempting to create the same success for their companies that the mentioned companies now have.

Now you may ask what was the aim of mentioning this.  My point is prior to Facebook and other Social Media sites became such recognized places for businesses to talk with customers, and create a footprint in the now changing technological bazaar, all these sites were seen by enterprises as a waste of time; a place that was only used by their employees and others to waste their precious work hours.  They were seen as unimportant to their business model, and could add no real monetary or other value to their companies.  It was seen as a fluke and a fad that would in due course reduce in popularity.

This misreading led to the Early Adopters being able to have a strong foothold in the marketplace today, as they proved how advantageous it could be to the modern business model.  Other companies, who were cynical about it then, are now coming onboard and finding it two, maybe three times as hard to create the same achievement the Early Adopters now share and enjoy.  They now have to invest 2-3 times as much to equal the Return on Investment (ROI) and Return on Engagement (ROE) that the Early Adopters now have and enjoy.

It has become more and more evident that Enterprise SMS is following the same trend and archetype that Social Media once experienced.  Before the trending and development of SMS, it was only seen as additional functionality to cell phones; the real power that existed then with a cell phone was the mobility it gave.  No one viewed  SMS as a way to communicate with immediacy or cost-effectiveness; some, somewhat bizarrely, even questioned why it was there in the first place.  More so, what possible use could SMS have in a business model?  As with Facebook, all it took was for one individual to prove how useful and valuable SMS could be in a company model and quickly these pioneers saw how it would create such a boom in the business community and jumped on the train of, then again, securing their position and dominancy in the marketplace.

Enterprise SMS is quickly becoming a familiar 'must have' in any business right across Europe and Asia, slowly but surely in the US.  This is because many businesses now recognize, as they did with Social Media, how Enterprise SMS adds untold value to their business in more ways than could have been imagined or thought possible.  So much so that even Social Media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have created apps or software for specific mobile 'on-the-go' use.  Developers in Asia have even developed a cell phone specifically for the purpose of texting, nothing else.
The innovative approach to developing new technology to facilitate the now established and still growing development of texting in the marketplace shows that texting is a new, improved way to communicate with customers in a way that is immediate, cost-effective, relevant and targeted like never before.

For this reason it is important for companies within Jamaica to quickly begin using Enterprise SMS within their organizations and become Early Adopters of this seemingly unending trend.  As we have seen, and is quite evident with Social Media, not being an Early Adopter and taking full advantage of the benefits of Enterprise SMS technology before everyone else in your industry may be a lot more costly and painstaking later on than you may think or even deem necessary.

Here are facts:

Year
Year Globa SMS messages sent
2000 17,000,000,000
2001 250,000,000,000
2005 1,000,000,000,000
