By Mary Harnetiaux
You want a dog but your kid has allergies. Why not try one of the dogs that are hypoallergenic? There are several breeds you can try.
Getting a dog can add to the family. You remember the dog you had as a child and want you kids to know that bond also. Try one of the dogs below and see if this is a good answer to the allergy problems.
Dogs that are hypoallergenic:
Basenji ~ Bichon Frise ~ Bichon/Yorkie ~
Border Terrier ~ Cochapoo ~ Schnauzer ~
Irish Water Spaniel ~ Maltese ~
Poodles - Including Minature, Standard and Toy breeds
Portuguese Water Dog ~ Shih-tzu
Yorkshire Terrior
There are other dogs that are hypoallergenic too. Check with the Humane Society or pet store to find out if they have one of these or another hypoallergenic dog.
You want to make sure and test the dog first. Some dogs will have a mix and you won't be sure until you let the dog visit you a few days.
Another advantage to these dogs is that they are anti-shedding dogs. This doesn't mean you won't have some indication of dog lint or lost hairs. It just means that it should be minimal.

Do some research and make some calls. Find dogs that are hypoallergenic and go get that dog or puppy and give it a try.
You might still have problems but giving the dog or puppy a bath every 2 weeks or so may help. If you really want a new dog in the family you will find the perfect one. There are dogs that are hypoallergenic and you can get one.

Non Shedding Dogs Today

Non Shedding Dogs And How They Can Be Part Of Your Life
If you have allergies to dogs or simply want a dog that does not lose a lot of hair, then non shedding dogs are the right choice. These dogs range from terriers to water dogs as well as hounds. Some have a one layer coat whilst others might be completely hairless. Others may not be strictly non-shedding, but are low shedding compared with many other dog breeds.
There are a number of hunting dogs which are non-shedding. Some of the most popular ones include:
- Basenji- Poodle- Irish Water Spaniel- Portuguese Water Dog
There are a number of terrier dogs which are non shedding dogs or only shed a small amount. These include
- Bedlington Terrier- Kerry Blue Terrier- Silky Terrier (hair comes out when it is brushed. this dog does produce dander)- Welsh Terrier
Some other hypoallergenic terriers include the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier
Greyhounds and Italian Greyhounds are also traditionally hunting dogs which have very short hair. Although the hair does shed, there is no undercoat and this makes the dog less likely to irritate people with allergies. The Vizsla is another dog that is not strictly non-shedding but does have a very short coat.
The American Hairless Terrier is a unique dog in that the only hair present is the eyebrows and whiskers. There are also toy, miniature and standard sizes. Naturally these dogs must be kept protected from the cold.
The Samoyed is a dog that doesn't produce dander so may be suitable for some people with mild allergies. It was originally used for hunting in the Arctic.
Having an allergy to dogs does not mean you should fore go the joy of dog ownership. There are so many hunting dogs that are suitable to sensitive people; whether you choose non shedding dogs or a low-shedding hypoallergenic breed.
Lizzie Novotny R.N has an informative website about dogs, especially the hunting dog breeds. She raises, trains and shows dogs and horses, and is familiar with all aspects of their care. Find answers to your dog-related questions by visiting her website at http://www.the-hunting-dog.com

How to and Why to Choose a Portuguese Water Dog - Obama
How to and Why to Choose a Portuguese Water Dog - Obama
By Bryan Burbank
If you have not heard of a Portuguese Water Dog, you probably live in a cave. The whole country is a buzz about this breed of dog. A Portuguese Water Dog will probably become the first dog this April. President Obama's daughters have chosen this breed to be the family pet. Below are some facts to familiarize you with the breed.
First, they are a little difficult to find, so it is best to go through an accredited breeder. They have wavy curly hair, and live between 12 to 14 years. They are usually white or black or a mixture of the 2 colors. They are considered to be working dogs, and are well known for having short hair that is considered to be hypoallergenic for those with allergies.
Second, it is a lively, loves companionship and can even be said to be a bit hyperactive. This breed can get bored if you just leave it sitting around the house. These dogs need to be played with and worked. A large quantity of toys are necessary to keep it busy. If you are consumed with work or your kids are very busy with school this is not the dog for you. If you are going to leave the dog alone for a period of time it is best to crate it for the short time with may toys or your home may be in shambles upon your return.
Third, This breed loves both adults and children. It requires long walks. So prepared to walk it yourself or have someone else exercise it. It is a playful dog and quite safe but when walking it is probably best on a leash. As with any breed early training is a good idea. This way you will have the pet you always wanted.
