Dogs Are Amazing Pets
Dogs Are Amazing Pets
By Loriane Davis
If you are looking for a friend you can always count on that will protect you and get excited about the smallest things you do, you may want to consider adopting a dog! Dogs are called "man's best friend" for good reasons. They try to clean your wounds when you get hurt by licking them, and they listen to you like whatever you are saying is the most important thing in the world. Dogs are very playful, affectionate and attentive animals that will love their master no matter what.
While you have to basically earn the affection of cats, dogs try hard to please and earn the affection of their masters. When they know they have done something wrong to displease their owner, they are likely to either hang their head, grovel, roll onto their back and try to look cute, or simply lie down and look very depressed. It's as if their goal in life is to please their owners. Cats, on the other hand think the world revolves around them and they live only for their owners to please them. Of course, when you please dogs, they show their happiness by wagging their tail frantically, running around or jumping, barking with excitement, or whatever that particular dog does when he is happy. All dogs have unique personalities, just like humans do.
Dogs are pack animals, meaning they love to be in groups rather than alone. They are also similar to humans in many ways. Dogs experience emotions, they can mourn when their owners or members of their family die or leave for a long time, they sometimes snore while sleeping once they're older, and they can learn to understand the language their owner speaks up to a certain degree. Dogs are very smart animals, and it has been said that while cats can understand vocabulary as well as a 2 year old human child, dogs can understand their master's language almost as well as a 5 year old child. You can teach your dog so many things with time, guidance and patience.
Of course, there are always some obstacles to overcome, especially with dogs new to your family or young puppies. Just remember that dogs are never stupid, they just need somebody to teach them so they know what to do. It is actually easier to paper train a puppy than it is to toilet train a human child! Dogs are willing to learn anything their master wants them to. They just need the time, patience, and guidance. Proof lies in the fact that the only animals police, firemen, and farmers use to help them do work they can't do - are dogs!

Understanding Humans, From a Beagle's Point-of-view
Understanding Humans, From a Beagle's Point-of-view
By Richard Cussons
Conscientious dog owners of Beagles and other breeds will want to know what's eating the dog when it sends out the odd woof, or growl, or bay. After all, who knows if if feels something bad, or if it saw something that needs immediate attention, or if there's somebody important about to ring the doorbell?
Things are a bit more complicated because the reverse seem not to hold water; dogs do take pains to tell us that we're doing something that either makes them happy or peeve them. Problem is, how do we know we're doing the right thing? The solution: observe pack behavior and see what human actions stick out like a glaring eye sore. And now, how do dogs see human actions we use day to day, to the point of taking for granted how animals see them?
Hugs
For some dog owners, their dogs see a hug differently, and not as a sign of affection at all. To a dog, the higher one's status rank in a group is, the more that that member is entitled to space. So a human hug is for them an invasion of space. Moreover, only lower members of the pack give space (sometimes, their own space) to the higher members to recognize authority. How the bodies are positioned also mean much to the dog. The one on top during the hug is the alpha (which is where the dog would rather be, given the choice). So this all leads to the fact that every time a person bends down to hug, the dog sees that the human is the alpha because he or she is on top, and is invading their space.
But far from spoiling what is a bond between friends, all this is meant to help you to be one step ahead of your dog's emotions. It is alright to hug a dog, so long as it is familiar to you, the dog is calm and in a submissive state of mind, and you are giving it affection at a time when you are composed and in a positive mood. If this is the case, the dog also is happy since it enjoys the warmth you are transmitting.
Do you still want to know how your dog will want you to hug it? Try this the next time around: turn your body sideways, do not look the dog in the eye, and give the dog the chance to be familiar with ouy by smelling you. All those are non-confrontational ways of greeting a dog in dog language.
Space
Let's say you just corrected your Beagle for some bad behavior. It's likely that in response, the dog slinks out of the room, or avoids looking at you directly because it is feeling down. Some people think twice about a dog's "hurt" feelings, and even try to go through the motions of befriending the dog.
But what exactly happened anyway? If you tell firmly your dog something and he turns his head and walks out of sight, the dog is actually saying that you are right and is accepting you as its alpha, or boss. From the point of view of dogs, giving space or the avoidance of direct eye contact are indicators of submissive attitudes. Furthermore, it could even be a compliment that your Beagle training (totally essential for this itchy-footed breed) is paying off. A human making amends with a dog which has indicated submission only confuses the dog.

The Divine Mind of Man's Best Friend
The Divine Mind of Man's Best Friend
By Johnna Shryack
Infinite Intelligence illumines and directs this animal. He is a perfect idea in Divine Mind and is always in its right place. He is living in the Now, knowing no past, living no anticipated future and he accepts his situation as it is presented with no malice or question. He never questions intent and loves unconditionally.
In the medical and spiritual fields he is a healer for the sick and infirmed. The medical community, especially those caring for the elderly, depends upon the healing energy of the dog and his kind nature to assist in making comfortable those persons living in their facilities. Just his presence can light up a room and bring smiles to the faces that once held despair and loneliness.
In the field of security and police work he guards and defends our property, person, and freedom. Tirelessly doing the job asked of him without complaint or burden. Entering danger with no fear or apprehension, and returning from a job well done with pride in his accomplishments.
As man's best friend he is loyal to the end, showing an unconditional love and acceptance given to his master. In this role he is most renown , for it is here that we see the unconditional love and loyalty only an animal well cared for and happy in his existence can exhume. He is a teacher to all mankind of the basic principles of getting along on this earth plane. Time and space have no meaning, and all is in harmony with this animal.
We train our dogs to obey and work hard, assisting us in our daily chores and guiding us through our lives and yet we don't pay attention to the behavior that is unique to each animal. The personality, kindness and love emanating from these souls are truly remarkable.
Look into the eyes and see through the window of true spirituality. The knowing that guides these animals through their daily lives I stand in awe of, for they seem to know when to go forward and when to sit back and just watch a situation unfold. Not everyone enjoys the companionship of an animal, but for me he keeps me grounded and shows me what my priorities are each day and how to live in harmony with the world around me.
The eldest of three children, I was raised in a christian home in rural Illinois. A college graduate , I chose a career path in the medical field. Married and divorced, I guided two children to adulthood. From a very early age I have known of a strong spiritual presence in my life and I feel privileged to share their guidance.
