Dog steps are extremely useful when a dog is constantly going up or down on something. The steps are just like our own in the sense that they provide us to go up and downstairs. The steps eliminate dogs having to over exert themselves by jumping off of things that may seem too high or to dangerous to make it down from.
The purpose of the steps being made is pretty self explanatory. The steps were invented to help older dogs or dogs with disabilities are able to get around a lot easier. We all know that dogs suffer a lot of the same things humans do. Dogs can develop bad backs, arthritis, or hip complications. Instilling the dog to use the stairs will help with this problem tremendously. If you utilize the stair method when the dog is still a puppy you can prevent many future ailments.
Dog steps have become quite a popular market and now have a huge variety of different steps to choose from. You can get the classic step which is just like our steps in the retrospect they can either climb up or down on them and they usually have soft carpet covering the wood underneath for extra comfort. They even have a stair that is in a 90 degree angle where the dog can run up the stair and slide down when they want to get low to the ground. Be careful in what step you decide to purchase, make sure it caters to the need of your particular dog.
With everything good, there is always a downside. These steps are known to cost a pretty decent penny. Your basic dog steps can cost anywhere around $150.00-$200.00 depending of course upon where you purchase them. If you simply do not have the funds to purchase the step and your good with your hands. One thing you may consider is making the steps for your good pet. To make the steps the materials would end up running you around $35.00 which is a lot cheaper and more heartfelt then just simply buying the steps.
So, you have decided to build your own dog steps. That is a great alternative! Not only does making your steps save you money but it allows you to put more pride in what you're doing for your best friend. You're going to need someone who is a well renowned carpenter to help you. Make sure you pick up about 3 2x4 pieces of wood, some cushion to line on the stairs and some carpet or material to cover over everything. The best part is the material; these are going to be your dog's best friend so get creative if you want to. Remember a dog is like your child you want them to be happy to receive the gift.
Make sure that you let any small children know that the dog stairs are not a toy for them. They are for the dog to use to climb so they don't hurt themselves. Remember the stairs are made from wood and could injure a little child. So, please keep an eye on your children when you have dog stairs in the home.
Some dogs may need to be trained to use the stairs. So don't get frustrated if your little bundle of energy does not want to use their beautiful stairs. It's something that is bran new you need to show them the stairs are fine and have them go up and down them with you. The best way to do this is to use an action figure or a piece of food and have the dog chase the food back and forth at least 2 times and repeat throughout the day.

Using Pet Stairs Can Save Your Dog's Joints!
Using Pet Stairs Can Save Your Dog's Joints!
By Bella Holly
It's always a great feeling to take in a puppy and teach it how to be a good dog. However, it isn't only puppies who require training. Some dogs, whether adopted or found, will require some degree of training when they enter your house, even if just to get the dog used to your rules and expectations. It's a great idea to utilize dog stairs into your training routine.
Small dogs are especially in need of small dog steps, as they can sustain a serious injury from falling or jumping off of tall furniture. Breeds such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians have fragile bones and can easily break their legs jumping from a bed or sofa. Picking them up to place them on furniture can not only be a nuisance, but it can cause them spinal problems in the future.
Large and small dog steps are readily available at many retailers and are a worthwhile investment in your dog's safety. There are many studies that show that small dogs are at the highest risk of breaking a limb if they fall off of a couch or bed and land improperly.
Many dogs are very smart and will only need to be shown a time or two how to ascend the stairs and then how to climb back down. Make sure that the steps are stationed where your dog will not climb to the top and fall off, i.e., not near a corner of the bed or armless sofa.
Keep the pet stairs free from objects that may cause the dog to trip such as toys and treats. Don't rush your puppy or dog to climb down right away if they hesitate. Let them get comfortable with using the steps and before you know it, their training will be complete.
Be sure to shop for steps that are the right height for your dog. Some of the best dog steps have adjustable heights on the steps that allow for growing puppies.

Stop Aggressive Dog Behavior in 3 Steps
Stop Aggressive Dog Behavior in 3 Steps
By Aleesha London
Yes, you can stop aggressive dog behavior on your own. That is if your dog is only moderately aggressive. A dog that barks too much or is too energetic can be helped through three basic steps.
Step 1: Be the alpha
Dogs naturally feel that they belong to a pack. It is also their nature to follow an alpha dog. If there is no one who seems like the alpha dog, your pet may believe that it is in the alpha position. You may be encouraging this belief in your dog by letting it have its way in everything including leading you instead of the other way around. If you do not want your dog to develop stronger aggressive tendencies, you need to make it believe in your authority as the alpha creature. Be firm with your dog all the time and use commands consistently.
Step 2: Use positive reinforcement
You should not use negative reinforcement to stop negative behavior. The better option is to use positive reinforcement. Every time your dog behaves correctly, reward it immediately with a treat, kind words, a rub on the back or a combination of all three. Your dog will eventually learn to associate certain acts with rewards and will behave more and more to your liking.
Step 3: Spend some time with your dog
Who would have thought that you can stop aggressive dog behavior with quality time? Some dogs develop aggression as a response to boredom or neglect. The solution would therefore be to provide your dog with as much playtime with you as possible. This is also a great way to give your dog some supervised socialization.
