Dog Obedience Tips - Avoid the Mistakes Owners Make When Training Their Dogs
By Howy Snyder
People love a well trained dog. It is something they feel really proud that their dogs understand and execute any command they give him, but let me assure you that the people who have successfully trained their pet, followed sound dog obedience tips since their pet was a young pup.
Some people are unsuccessful training their dogs because they either start when their pet is older or because they have failed to be consistent with the way they have trained the animal and they keep sending mixed signals or because the owner has failed to establish him or herself as the leader or alpha figure.
Dogs are social creatures and they need a leader to follow. It is in their nature to seek for the pack leader, otherwise, they will assume the role themselves. That is why you should show your pet that you are the leader and guardian.
Some Useful Tips
1. Always use the same command to reinforce the behavior that you want.2. Always praise your dog immediately after he has done what you were asking him to do. This way you will show him that he has done something right and he will then learn how to repeat the action3. Be patient. You need to understand that it will take time for your puppy will need a few training sessions before he will behave the way you want. Do not raise your voice or get frustrated. This will show him that the command you are teaching him is associated with anger and or anxiety.4. Take breaks. You want his full attention. It will be more enjoyable and easy to teach him something if he has your full attention and you allow him to have a break in between exercises. That way this activity will not be overwhelming for your pet.
Follow these dog obedience tips and you will enjoy the company of your new best friend for many years to come.

Puppy Training Biting - The Easiest Way to Teach Your Pup Not to Bite Ever Again
Puppy Training Biting - The Easiest Way to Teach Your Pup Not to Bite Ever Again
By Howard Snyder
If you just brought a new dog home, then you know how gratifying it is to know that this beautiful animal will give you love and company for many years to come. But you need to start the puppy training biting soon to avoid any behavior problems later.
Dogs are social creatures and they love company but they also need a pack leader that will guide them. In this case, you are the pack leader and if you don't show this to your pup, he will assume the roll of the leader. It is in their nature to have a leader or to become one. That is why it is crucial to demonstrate your authority from and early stage.
Showing your authority does not mean to be cruel or violent. Just to project your strength and to let him know when he does something good as well as point out when some behaviors are not acceptable.
Puppies love to play and they do so by biting. They bite everything that they can reach and will continue to do so unless you stop them.
The easiest way to deter biting is to growl at your pup the next time he starts biting either you or something or someone. Make sure that you use a very deep voice and make it menacing. Dogs understand innately what this noise means. It is programmed in their genes to understand the leader of the pack and the leader will behave this way whenever they do something inappropriate.
I know this puppy training biting technique sounds really silly. But believe me, it works very well. Just remember to be consistent with your training.

The Amazing Benefits of Obedience Training Your Dog
The Amazing Benefits of Obedience Training Your Dog
By Jim Burwell
Owning a well behaved, happy, well balanced dog takes work. So before you run out and get a new dog or puppy, give it some serious thought. Make sure you are ready for the commitment and care it takes to add a new dog or puppy to your family.
Unfortunately many dog owners do not take the time to teach their dogs to obey commands. Lots of new dog owners are amazed that their untrained dog will not come to them when called or their untrained dogs pull them on a leash so badly they look like a tail on a kite. Lots of dog owners simply let the dog or puppy have the run of the house and allow them to jump on the furniture, tear things up and have their own way. Not only is this detrimental to your home, it doesn't teach your dog to respect you. It certainly doesn't help him view you as his leader. Next stop - the local shelter. No fault of the dog!
Here are some easy to follow suggestions to help you get obedience training with your dog:
Be consistent. Training your dog to perform a specific behavior one day, then the next day allowing him to do as he pleases is being inconsistent and confuses your dog. Train for 5-10 minutes each day, the same way you trained the day before, using the same hand signals and the same words.Give praise and an occasional treat. When you ask your dog to perform a behavior such as a sit, the minute his butt hits the ground you say in a happy voice Good Boy. If you want you may then give a treat. If you wait more than 1.0 to 1.5 seconds after his butt hits the ground to praise, your dog is clueless as to what the praise is associated with.Always use the exact same words to request a command. If you are teaching your dog to come to you and you use the word come then always use the word come, and all family members must use the same word. If you use come and another family member uses here---you are again being inconsistent.Be patient. You will have times when your dog has learned a command, the next day you ask for the behavior and he looks at you as if you are speaking a foreign language. Try a couple more times, if again, he doesn't do it, stop for the day and pick back up tomorrow. Dogs will sometimes do that. There is a saying that goes, your dog has not truly learned a command until he has learned the command, forgotten it, then learned it again.Don't try to teach too many commands at once. Get one mastered before venturing on to the next one.Very important - dogs learn in context. This simply means if you teach your dog to sit in your den, that's where you dog will sit---not in the kitchen. He hasn't learned sit in the kitchen. Point being, you have to teach your dog the command in different areas. When you have a dog that is well mannered and obeys your commands, life is much easier and happier for everyone. You don't worry about him jumping on friends and visitors. Your dog understand what the expectations are and HOW to meet them, he views you as his leader and you in turn have a well mannered, well balanced, happy, happy dog. Everyone wins!
