5 Tips to Help Solve Common Dog Housebreaking Problems

5 Tips to Help Solve Common Dog Housebreaking Problems
By Crystal Jordan

Dog housebreaking problems are very common and can be a big source of stress to a dog owner. It seems like you have tried everything but nothing works and you seem to be at a loss as to what to do next. Here are 5 tips to try before you give up on your dog.

1. Confine your dog to a crate or restrain him on a leash if you cannot observe him. Keep him in the crate for 2 hours intervals and a 30 minute potty break. Never let your dog roam around the house unmonitored.

2. When going outside on potty runs, take him to the same potty area every time so he gets the hint. Dogs learn the fastest when there is a routine.

3. If your dog does relieve himself outside, let him run around the room where you are in. Don't give him the run of the whole house, just because he urinated outside. He should only be introduced to the rest of the house slowly.

4. If you do catch your dog urinating in the house, gently interrupt him and take him outside. When he does go back to the site of the accident, tell him "shame on you."

5. Don't give your dog water two hours before the last potty run, and at night do not allow him to drink any water. This will help because younger dogs have small bladders.

Use these 5 tips to cure the dog housebreaking problems you might be facing. The sooner you start, the easier it will be to change your dog's behavior.
